Intel Products Vietnam Company will churn out the first batch of chip from its assembling plant in Ho Chi Minh City hi-tech park in July this year, CEO Rick Howarth told the Doanh nhan Sai gon magazine.

The plant is expected to make six million products in the last two quarters and up to 24 million/year in 2011. Once the facility operates at its full capacity in the next 3-5 years, it can generate revenues of between $5 billion and $15 billion.

Under the schedule, the plant will manufacture chips and expand to make central processing unit (CPU) for mobile devices when the global demand rises, Howarth said.

This month, Intel Vietnam will put its first production line into operation.

This is the first $1 billion hi-tech project and the U.S.’s biggest project in Vietnam so far.

Vietnam-made products will have a competitive advantage over those from Intel plants in other countries, the company said. (Saigon Businessman)
