U.S. First Solar Seeking Location to Build $1.2B Plant in Vietnam
First Solar Inc. of the U.S., the world’s largest manufacturer of thin solar cells, is seeking a suitable location to build a $1.2-billion plant to manufacture solar-powered turbines in Vietnam.
The firm is considering building the plant in a 72-hectare area at the Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park or at the Phong Phu Industrial Park in Ho Chi Minh City, the Tuoi Tre online newspaper reported late Saturday.
First Solar earned revenues of $568 million in the first quarter of this year, soaring 36% from a year earlier.
