Vietnam to Need $100B on Power Projects in Next 2 Decades

Vietnam will need $100 billion for building power plants with a combined capacity of 68,000 MW in the next 20 years, according to the national power development for the 2010-2020 period, with a vision for further development through 2030, or plan VII.
 
The Southeast Asian country will have 88 coal-fired power plants with capacity of between 100 MW and 1,200 MW each and a total investment of $83 billion from now through 2025.
 
It will also have 75 hydropower plants with capacity of between 30 MW and 1,200 MW each and a combined investment of $10 billion by that time.
 
In order to meet 70% of electric wires and transformer stations, as well as satisfy 55% of electric motors and dynamos for local power plants by 2015, the country is estimated to need VND136 trillion for electric equipment production in the next five years. (Trade & Industry)
