Vietnam may earn revenues of between $2.5 billion-$2.7 billion from rubber exports this year, state media said, citing an official from the Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG).

Tran Thi Thuy Hoa, general secretary of the VRG, said that the high price of rubber latex in the global market will help Vietnam raise its rubber export value.

Rubber latex is offered at $5,000 per ton in the world market and rubber prices will be kept at high level this year amid soaring demand, Hoa said.

The Southeast Asian country expects to produce 780,000 tons of rubber latex this year, up 30,000 tons from 2010. The country has 678,000 hectares of rubber plantation, 65% of which are in harvest period, the VRG said.

Vietnam, the world’s fourth largest rubber exporter, earned $2.376 billion from exporting 783,000 tons of rubber latex last year, up 93.7% in value and 7% in volume on year, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said. (VoV)
