EVN to Kick-start Five Power Projects in 2011

The state-run Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) plans to kick off constructions of five new power projects with a combined capacity of 3,830 MW this year.
 
They are 1,200-MW Vinh Tan 2 expanded; 1,000-MW Mong Duong 1; and 1,200-MW Duyen Hai 3 coal-fired power plants; turbine 2 of 600-MW O Mon 1 gas-fuelled power plant, and 100-MW Song Bung 2 hydropower plant.
 
The group expects to produce 48.1 billion kWh of electricity and buy 64.5 billion kWh from local and and foreign sources this year in order to meet the domestic demand of 98.53 billion kWh.
 
Last year, EVN started building five power projects with a combined capacity of 4,356 MW.
 
The national power sole distributor produced and bought from local and foreign sources 97.25 billion kWh of electricity, exceeding 3.86 billion kWh from compared to the full-year target and rising 14.73% on year.
 
It supplied 85.6 billion kWh of electricity to the domestic market, an increase of 14.41% from 2009. (chinhphu.vn)
