Salt Output Estimated to Exceed 32,026 Tonnes in February
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said the country’s salt output is estimated at over 32,026 tonnes in February, equal to just 21 percent in the same period of 2010. In particular, manual salt output was 23,395 tonnes and industrial salt production was 8,631 tonnes.
The country’s salt-marsh area is now 15,165.7 ha, just 0.4 percent larger than in 2010, of which 12,191.7 ha is used for manual production and 2,974 ha is for industrial salt production. Salt output dropped sharply due to bad weather.
Salt prices in February were a bit higher than in January. Prices in northern provinces are around VND750 - 1,200 per kilo, higher than those in central provinces and the Mekong Delta. With its property advantages, white salt is more expensive than black and yellowish salt.
The ministry anticipated a stable price of salt in the coming time.
