Priority for Key Transport Projects
The Ministry of Transport recently held a meeting to review activities in 2010 and map out plans for 2011.
In 2011, the Ministry of Transport expects to increase the throughput of cargo from 8 - 10 %, the volume of passengers by 9 -10 % and reduce traffic casualties by at least 3 %.
The transportation sector will focus on four groups of solutions to achieve its goals. It will build and upgrade more than 800 km of roads, 10 km of bridge, 400 km of railway, and 36,000 sq. metres of airport terminals.
The ministry also proposed the government add reciprocal capital for ODA-funded projects, advance capital allocated for 2012 to complete incomplete projects, and seek permits for bond issue from the lawmaking National Assembly.
