Increased Exports to Turkey
According to the Ministry of Trade, the Vietnamese export value to Turkey in 2004 will be US$50 million (125 per cent of 2003), mostly consisting of direct exports. The main exports include footwear, rubber, rice, garments, pepper, bamboo and rattan products, tin, coffee, bicycles and spare parts. The export value of footwear in the first six months was US$3.8 million and is expected to hit US$7.6 million for the whole year. Rubber export is worth some US$2 million and will increase as Turkey demands 80,000-150,000 tonnes a year. Rice exports have reached 5,000 tonnes and are valued at nearly US$1 million. Pepper exports account for some 1,000 tonnes worth US$1.23 million.
In 2004, the import value from Turkey will be US$25 million, mainly from steel, construction materials, automobiles and parts, transformers, electric equipment, medicines, textile machines, grass ware, chemicals, leather and leather products, cookies and raisin imports.
The Trade Ministry forecasts that in 2005, Vietnamese exports to Turkey will increase by US$4 million with 70-75 per cent of the export value coming from sales of industrial products.
