Viet Tien Garment Company: An Eye on the Future

Viet Tien Garment has one of the most advanced production lines and skilled workforce in Vietnam. Its products are of a high quality, meeting the demand of the market, and have been voted by customers as ‘high quality products’ for eight consecutive years. The company was awarded 153 medals at exhibition fairs and the Order of Heroic Unit by the State.

Viet Tien company has its own model of development, relying on united strength, dynamism, creativity and the discipline of its staff members and workers. Its collective efforts have successfully produced a programme of sustainable development and ushered the company to the top position in the garment sector.

The Viet Tien trademark and products have been famous for the past several years thanks to a business-like strategy to improve the quality of its products. The company has applied the quality management system ISO 9001:2000, upgraded the production line, ensured the output and delivery on schedule and has raised its competitiveness. The company can consequently maintain a stable and reasonable production cost, which is highly appreciated by foreign partners. Besides quality and market share, the company continues to diversify its products to satisfy different customers and has now expanded into the production fields of uniforms for schools, offices and hospitals.

In early December 2003, the Viet Tien company contributed capital with Binh Thuan Garment Export Company to establish the Thuan Tien Garment Export Co., Ltd in Phan Thiet IZ, Binh Thuan province.

The production of high quality products is difficult but it is equally difficult to attract customers, especially when the market is under strong pressure from all elements: quality, trademark, price and trade fraud. Evidently, the focus on quality is not enough and so the company has developed a sales network nation-wide with 250 agents to bring its products to consumers. In the coming years, while maintaining its position in the domestic market, the company will expand its exports to ASEAN members, the EU and Canada its internationally registered trademark. It seems fair to say that the new development strategy will bring about higher growth rates for the company and bigger contribution to the State revenue. Furthermore, the income and welfare of its workers will be improved with better policies on salaries, bonuses, healthcare, free lunch and rest and recreation periods.

Nonetheless, there remain several constraints for the development of Vietnamese garment enterprises. With the approaching economic integration, Vietnam-US and Vietnam-Japan bilateral agreements, foreign enterprises will be free to invest in Vietnam without any binding provisions. The State must therefore strengthen market management against trade fraud, whilst encouraging and assisting Vietnamese enterprises to promote brand names and business activities. Even on a level playing field, the Viet Tien company believes that its products and trademark will continue to record higher prestige and development.
