Social welfare and charity works are high priorities for PetroVietnam and its affiliated units at all levels to contribute to the concerted efforts of the government and people. In particular, PetroVietnam has always increased its contribution in the most difficult conditions. This is truly the business culture of PetroVietnam.

In recent years, PetroVietnam has increased its corporate responsibility for social welfare with high efficiency. Each year, its budget revenue amounts to 25-30 percent of the total budget and contributes 20 percent to Vietnam economy. In addition, PetroVietnam is always leading in social welfare and community responsibility.

In implementing the wish of President Ho Chi Minh expressed in his Last Will: “Everyone should have enough food and clothes and the chance for education,” all units of PetroVietnam have joined in the campaign to contribute to social welfare. In 2006-2010, some VND3,000 billion have been collected for social welfare.

In 2011, PetroVietnam has registered VND600 billion for social welfare. So far VND630 billion has been disbursed or 105 percent of the plan for the whole year. In the first nine months of 2011, PetroVietnam spent over VND115,851 million to build houses for donation, 105 percent of the plan. In addition, it also built school and dispensaries for local people. It is expected that some VND715 billion will be spent for this purpose in 2011. The amount will be 95 percent of the contribution of the enterprises under the management of the central government. PetroVietnam is also, in conjunction with the Defence Ministry and Navy Command, implementing a project distilling fresh water from sea water in the Truong Sa archipelago worth over VND300 billion. The project will be completed by the end of 2013.

In a working session with PetroVietnam, Mr Huynh Dam, President of Vietnam Fatherland Front, highly praised the exemplary efforts of managers and workers of PetroVietnam in recording brilliant achievements in both business activities and social welfare. In the conditions of inflation, PetroVietnam has increased its assistance to the poor and social welfare, and it will continue to lead in this field in the coming years.

At PetroVietnam, community responsibility and social welfare are being combined in an emulation campaign of over 500,000 workers. It has become a daily practice to learn and follow the example set by President Ho. As a result, the harder the conditions, the stronger the campaign develops in community responsibility and social welfare. This is truly the business culture of PetroVietnam.
