A Chevron-led consortium of Chevron Vietnam Ltd., PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP), Mitsui Oil Exploration Co., Ltd. (MOECO), and PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), just granted scholarships to more than 800 schoolchildren in Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu and Hau Giang provinces, and Can Tho, in partnership with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children (NFVC).

The initiative is part of a larger Chevron-led program to improve access to education by providing scholarships and upgrading schools. In 2012, the partners will upgrade one school in each province and in Can Tho. The total value of the partners’ donation to the NFVC this year is more than VND3 billion (US$150,000). By the end of 2012, the partners will have granted more than 3,000 scholarships to young students and upgraded 15 schools in the Mekong Delta over the past four years.

Chevron, PVEP, MOECO and PTTEP are investors in the Block B gas project, which will provide power to meet Vietnam’s growing demand by supplying natural gas to power plants in Ca Mau and Can Tho.
