Japan will continue providing assistance for Vietnam to help realise its great potential in agriculture, said Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam, Yasuaki Tanizaki.
The Japanese diplomat made this statement on September 21 during a visit to the Hanoi University of Agriculture (HUA) to mark the 39th anniversary of Vietnam - Japan diplomatic ties.

Ambassador Yasuaki Tanizaki said that Vietnam has a great potential for agricultural growth and the Japanese government will assist the country to train human resources in various fields, including agriculture.

As part of a technical co-operation project between HUA and the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), Japan will transfer its most advanced technologies to Vietnam so that the country can develop new high-yield, disease resistant rice varieties.

This will help Vietnam ensure food security, especially as it is highly vulnerable to climate change and the demand for food is growing along with its increasing population.
In his speech to HUA students, the Japanese ambassador encouraged the students to follow the example of Vietnamese agricultural scientist Luong Dinh Cua, who studied in Japan and made significant contributions to Vietnam’s agricultural sector.
