Viglacera: Continued Product Research & Development

Throughout 30 years of establishment, Vietnam Construction Glass and Ceramics Corporation (Viglacera) has increasingly expanded production, diversified products, and upgraded equipment and technology to international standards. It now has 30 member enterprises and has becomes the leading producer of construction materials in Vietnam.

Viglacera has always focused on research and development, applying advanced technology and the ISO 9001:2000 management system in its production of high quality products such as construction glass, sanitary porcelain, ceramic and granite tiles, substituting imported products and expanding export markets. Viglacera established a research and development centre and extended technical co-operation with partners in Italy, Germany, UK, US, Japan, etc. It has participated in domestic and international exhibition fairs on machinery and technology for construction materials and imported modern equipment and technology for such enterprises as Thanh Tri, Viet Tri, Binh Duong porcelain and Hanoi Tile Co. The company has invested more in the production of high quality and competitive products.

In 2002, it successfully produced Cotto tiles for modern architecture and decorative purposes. Binh Duong and Gieng Day (Ha Long) Cotto enterprises can each produce 2 million sq. metres of tiles per year. Each year the corporation overall produces 30 million sq. metres of granite and ceramic tiles and 2 million tonnes of sanitary porcelain, construction glass and fire-resistant bricks. It has established distribution networks at home and abroad and registered its trademark in Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Korea, Australia and the US amongst others. In 2003, export value was US$9.22 million, 115 per cent of the projected plan.

In line with its plan for diversification of industry and ownership, the corporation has established member companies in investment consulting, manufacture design, equipment installation and technology transfer. It has also invested in the Tien Son industrial and urban zone of 150 hectares (Quang Ninh), and industrial complexes in Tan Uyen and Di An (Binh Duong) attracting several investors with preferential treatment incentives. Viglacera will continue its stable growth into the future and become an important economic group in Vietnam.
