VN Succeeds in Curbing Inflation in 2012

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in December 2012 only increased 0.27 percent against the previous month and up 6.81 percent in 2012, according to the report of the General Statistics released on December 24.
 
The inflation rate in 2012 stood at around 8 percent, achieving the Government’s goal.
 
Post and telecommunication continued to be the only items decreasing (-0.02 percent).
 
Garments, hats and footwear showed the highest increase in December 2012 with 1.17 percent, then followed by household equipments and commodities (up 0.59 percent) and entertainment and tourism (up 0.34 percent). 
 
The prices of catering services slightly went up by 0.28 percent. Commodities and services with a low rise of CPI included health care services (up 0.14 percent), education (up 0.09 percent) and transport (down 0.43 percent).
 
The gold price in December rose 0.46 percent in comparison with the previous month and up 0.4 percent against the same period last year.
