Cholimex: Diversified for Strength

Cho Lon Import-Export and Investment Company (Cholimex) was officially established in November 1989 after previously operating as: District 5 Import-Export Company, District 5 Export Supply Company, and District 5 Business Association. In over 20 years, Cholimex has unceasingly developed in strength, size, prestige and trademark.

The main activities of Cholimex are import and export. The company understands well the demand of domestic and world markets and has repeatedly increased its import-export value. In recent years, the company has always maintained the import-export growth rate of 30 per cent. The total import-export value in 2003 was US$25 million in which export value comprised nearly 50 per cent. The main exports of the company are processed food, frozen aquaproducts and garments, accounting for 80-90 per cent of the total export value. These products are also manufactured on new production lines and under the quality management systems ISO 9001:2000 - HACCP - GMS. Cholimex is also set to begin producing new items such as canned fish and crab, sauces and spices. In addition to traditional markets the company has registered its trademark in Russia, the US and ASEAN, and plans to expand to markets in Africa and the Middle East to gain international recognition for its trademark.

Cholimex has also built its profile in the domestic market and the Cholimex trademark has become familiar to consumers nation-wide. It has been elected as a Vietnamese high quality product for several consecutive years.

In addition to import-export, Cholimex is also successful in the development of infrastructure for industrial zones. It has developed Vinh Loc industrial zone with an area of 207 hectares. Presently, the workplace has been fully rented (120 hectares) with 97 enterprises including 29 wholly foreign invested enterprises. The total investment capital is VND2,365 billion and over US$31 million. The company will expand 100 hectares in Vinh Loc IZ and develop two more industrial zones in Long An (230 hectares) and Tay Ninh (160 hectares).

To maintain and develop its trademark, Cholimex continues to improve and diversify its products, apply new technology and perfect its quality management procedures in the manufacture process. Cholimex not only ensures the high quality of its products but also displays a commitment to satisfying its customers.
