FRG Chancellor at Ground Breaking Ceremony of Van Laack Factory

On October 8, 2004, FRG Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder attended the ground breaking ceremony of Van Laack Company, a wholly German owned company in Vietnam. Also present at the ceremony were Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem, German Ambassador to Vietnam Ludwig Weber Lortsch and Mr Van Daniel, Chairman of Van Laack Company, FRG. The new factory is being constructed on an area of 9,000 sq. metres in Thanh Tri district, Hanoi.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Schroeder said that he viewed the ceremony with great enthusiasm for two reasons: “I am deeply impressed by the land and people of Vietnam,” and “Van Laack is not only a famous company in Germany but also a pioneering German company in Vietnam”. For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem added that “Van Laack exemplifies the economic co-operation between Germany and Vietnam”. On the occasion, Van Laack also donated VND1.2 billion to Thanh Tri People’s Committee to build a nursery for the children of workers and local people.
