HP, VCCI Plan Business Development Program for SMEs

Hewlett Packard (HP) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry have recently introduced the "Business Development" program in Danang City, which is designed to assist small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the city and elsewhere in central Vietnam.

"This is a program HP has deployed in many countries to assist SMEs," said HP Vietnam managing director Barney Yiu. The program will help SMEs to effectively invest in information technology (IT).

Firstly, SMEs participating in the program will get access to IT consulting services for free via conferences. They will also be provided with general IT and telecoms over the next 3-5 years. Secondly, the SMEs will be provided with updated information by leading experts of HP, Microsoft and Intel. Thirdly, the SMEs will be allowed to take part in fact-finding trips to other countries in South East Asia.

"The program will begin in April this year and will last until SMEs in Danang complete their modernisation schemes," he said.

According to VCCI, Danang now has 600 enterprises, with 75 per cent being SMEs. HP Vietnam hopes that the program will help it to gain an annual growth of 15-20 per cent in central Vietnam.
