Vietnam’s Efforts toward Greater Transparency in Animal, Plant Quarantine and Epidemic Prevention

The Vietnam National Office of Sanitary and Phytosanitary was established recently under Decision No. 99/2005/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister, hereafter referred as Vietnam SPS Office.

The Office will serve as the focal point in implementing transparency-related requirements as provided in the Agreement on application of WTO’s sanitary and phytosanitary measures.

Vietnam SPS Office will assist the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development in carrying out transparency-related tasks as required in the Agreement on application of WTO’s sanitary and phytosanitary measures; providing information and answers to questions relating to sanitary and quarantine regulations; and asking WTO member countries to provide information on measures, risk-analysis procedures, inspection and other issues pertaining to sanitation and quarantine.
