'Vietnam Intellect' Contest Launched

The 2005 'Vietnam Intellect' software contest was launched in Hue city on May 19 with the participation of 1,200 information technology students from the Hue Science University, the Hue Teacher Training University, the private-run Phu Xuan University, the Thua-Thien Hue Information Technology Centre and the Hue National School.

Two products of young programmers in Thua Thien-Hue have qualified for the finals and one of them has won an award as a 'Potential' product. This is the first time programmers from outside Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the two largest information technology centres in Vietnam, have qualified for the finals.

At the launching ceremony, the organisers of the contest co-operated with the Thua Thien-Hue to organise a seminar to introduce products which won prizes at the 2004 'Vietnam Intellect' contest. Around 200 information technology students in Hue were introduced to the network security defence and supervision system, which won the first prize, the HS-IVR solution, which won the 'Potential' prize, the CD-ROM on Vietnamese ethnic groups, which won the third prize and Kava – Linux-based Java programming environment, which qualified for the finals.

Vietnam Intellect is a software contest organised by Lao Dong newspaper, Vietnam Television and FPT Corporation with an aim to 'discover potential and encourage talent.' Apart from encouraging contestants to take advantage of open sources under the spirit 'integrating technology and connecting friends,' the organisers have encouraged contestants to develop software products in other fields, such as culture, history and painting.
