Viettel Moving up a Notch in Competition Front

The Vietnam Military Telecoms Company (Viettel) held a function in Hanoi yesterday to officially announce its decision to become the Military Telecoms Corporation, a move that aims to enhance its competitiveness in the face of global integration.

Accordingly, Viettel now has nine departments, two committees, nine affiliated companies, three administrative agencies and 64 telecoms centers in 64 cities and provinces nationwide.

With a chartered capital of VND950 billion (US$60 million), the corporation is providing such telecoms services as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), landline telephone and mobile phone service.

Viettel’s mobile phone network, the third largest mobile network in Vietnam, has seen a continuous rise in clientele, with its total number of subscribers now topping the 600,000 mark.

The military operator aims to attract 1.5 million subscribers and set up 1,800 transceiver stations in total by the end of this year, according to company announcement yesterday.
