FedEx: Customers' Confidence Strengthens Ground for Successes
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic establishment, the Vietnam Business Forum’s reporter Van Luong had a cosy talk with Mr. Nguyen Duy Binh, FedEx Chief Representative in South East Asia.
Could you tell us about the achievements of FedEx after 11 years in Vietnam?
FedEx is the biggest air delivery company in the world. It began operations in Vietnam in 1994 and its trademark has gradually popularised in the country. Up to now, it has 150 staff and expanded its services to nearly all provinces and cities in Vietnam. To meet the increasing demand of customers and the fast economic development of Vietnam, we will soon operate six-ton freight airplanes.
What is your business experience in the Vietnamese market?
Vietnam is considered an economy of high potential with very fast development in the region. The government’s open-door policies have facilitated the operation of foreign businesses including FedEx. Operating in over 215 countries, FedEx has a global policy to improve its services and expand its network to meet the increasing demand of the market.
In your opinion, what are the difficulties and challenges of Vietnam when it enters the WTO?
The investment environment in Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular has been improved in recent years. However, there remain shortfalls in legal documents that the government needs to overcome in order to create a stable and more attractive environment for foreign investors, such as the improvement of the investment law, taxation and license procedures. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese government should accelerate the implementation of its commitments to the Vietnam-US bilateral trade agreement (BTA), especially in the financial sector and express airborne delivery. This will help Vietnamese exporters have more access to the US market and increase foreign investment flows. I believe that by the end of December 2005, Vietnam will become a full member of WTO. At that time, the environment will become stable, open and attractive to foreign investors, including the US enterprises.
Currently, local and foreign firms are competing fiercely to gain express mail and a good delivery market. Can you disclose FedEx’s business strategy in the coming time?
The strategy of FedEx is to understand and satisfy the demand of clients and wholeheartedly improve its service quality by the best and most reliable service. It is the satisfaction and confidence of the customers that cement the foundation of its success.
