Vietnam Targets GDP Growth of 8 per cent in 2006
Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, at a recent cabinet meeting in Hanoi, has asked ministries, services and localities across the country to strive for a GDP growth rate of 8 per cent in 2006.
Khai said that Vietnam should try to further restructure the local economy with a priority to develop high-tech industries, raise the competitiveness of local products and increase exports. He also highlighted other focuses on more effective poverty reduction, epidemic prevention and better health care.
All sources of capital for investment for development should be mobilized, Khai said, adding that the country also needs to work out effective policies to import modern technologies from abroad.
