Authorities in southern Binh Phuoc province have recently approved a planning design for the Hoa Lu Border Economic Zone in Loc Ninh district, which is considered a clue towards facilitating future trade between Vietnam and other Southeast Asian nations.

The Prime Minister issued a decision to set up the zone on January 5 this year. The project is expected for submission to the Ministry of Planning and Investment this month for implementation next year.

Under the plan, the zone will have a total area of 28,000 ha and a population of 36,430. Hoa Lu Border Economic Zone will be developed to become an industrial and service zone changing it from an agricultural and forestry area, which it is used for now.

Along with the establishment of the zone and upgrade of its infrastructure, the National Highway 13 will be enlarged and a railway linking Ho Chi Minh City with Loc Ninh is to be developed.
