Vinashin Builds New Shipyard in Central Vietnam
The State-run Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corp. (Vinashin) yesterday kicked off the construction on a new shipyard in Nai Hien Dong ward, Son Tra district, central Danang City.
The Danang Shipyard, covering an area of 32.2 ha, has an initial investment capital of VND600 billion (US$37.97 million)
"Equipped with advanced shipbuilding technologies, Danang Shipyard is capable of making cargo freighters of 15,000 DWT and repairing ships of 30,000 DWT,” a Vinashin official said at the start-up ceremony.
The shipyard, scheduled for operation in end-September next year, will employ 1,500 workers.
Until now, Vinashin has built three large-scale shipyards in central Vietnam, including Dung Quat Shipyard in Quang Ngai and Hyundai-Vinashin Shipyard in Van Phong Bay, Khanh Hoa. The VND600-billion Dung Quat Shipyard can build ships of 100,000 tons while Hyundai-Vinashin can repair ships of 400,000 tons.
