Telephone Subscribers Exceeds 15.3Mln

Telecom service companies in Vietnam have so far signed up 15.3 million telephone subscribers, raising the tele-density to 18 phones per 100 residents, according to Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (VNPT).
 
Of the sum, 56.3 per cent, or 8.61 million, are mobile phone subscribers, said VNPT, the country’s largest post and telecom service provider.
 
Vietnam has so far invested over VND3 trillion (US$190 million) to bring telephone services to all communes in the nation.
 
By the end of 2005, Vietnam also had 2.87 million Internet subscribers and 8.5 Internet users.
 
Under the post and telecom development strategy, by 2010, the Vietnamese tele-density will reach 32-42 phones per 100 people and 8-12 Internet accounts per 100 people, with 25 per cent of the population able to access the Internet.
