Quiet Automobile Market in Year-end Months
According to latest statistics of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), the total number of cars sold by 11 members of VAMA reached only 2,567, or 800 less than the previous month and equal to 46.5 per cent of the same period last year.
This is the lowest figure in eight months. Despite being a leader in the market, Toyota sold only 647 cars last month, 460 cars less than two months ago. Ford and Vinastar sold only 500 and 300 cars, falling by 167 and 217, respectively.
According to experts, a fall in sales resulted from the continuous controversy over prices in 2006. While the Ministry of Finance said that prices of cars would fall in 2006, manufacturers affirmed that prices would not fall as special consumption tax had increased.
So far, 11 members of VAMA have sold 30,949 cars, or 2,000 cars less than the same period last year.
