Minimal Wage of FDI Enterprises yet to be Adjusted in January

An adjustment of the minimal wage of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises was scheduled on January 1, 2006. However, the adjustment projects submitted by the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs have not been approved by the Government.

Le Xuan Thanh, deputy head of the Department of Salary, said that it was certain that the adjustment of the minimal wage of FDI enterprises would be rescheduled. If the proposed adjustment takes effect on January 1, 2006, the Government should have made a decision. However, a concrete date for the adjustment has not been set.

Thanh said that the reason was that some FDI enterprises had proposed that the Prime Minister postpone the adjustment as they wanted to have time for preparing their financial plans for 2006 on a basis of calculating input costs.

Earlier in November, the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs submitted two projects on adjusting the minimal wage of FDI enterprises to the Government. In the first project, minimal wages to be paid in three regions are put at VND 870,000, 790,000 and 710,000 per month, respectively. Under the second project, minimal wages will be adjusted with a CPI increase of 25.5 per cent, reaching VND 790,000, 710,000 and 630,000 per month in three regions, respectively.
