Vietnamese Trade Minister Truong Dinh Tuyen will visit Egypt from March 3-10 in a bid to promote trade relations between the two countries, state media reported on February 15.

Tuyen and his entourage will join hand with the foreign country to organize a business conference to discuss concrete measures to boost trade cooperation during their stay, the news source said.

Also, the Vietnamese trade leader is slated to attend a meeting of the Vietnam-Egypt Joint Committee. In addition, the delegation will collaborate with the Vietnamese Commercial Representative Agency and the Ambassador in Egypt to hold a marketing study.

Vietnam and Egypt have established diplomatic ties for 41 years. Vietnam now ranks top among major pepper exporters to Egypt, claiming around 40 per cent of the market share followed by Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Brazil.

However, Vietnam-Egypt two-way trade is still limited, last year’s figure only nearly reached US$42 million. Of the figure, Vietnam sold around US$39 million of goods to the foreign market while it bought from Egypt more than US$2.5 million worth of goods.
