WB-funded Rural Energy Development Project II Kicked off
Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the sole electricity provider in Vietnam and localities started on February 23 the World Bank-funded Rural Energy II project (REII) totaling US$329.5 million, State media said.
The REII project is aimed to upgrade the medium-voltage electricity network, improve and expand the low-voltage power lines for roughly 1,200 communes in 30 provinces and cities nationwide, a REII official said.
Meanwhile, the project will target to raise the management skills and provide the technical assistance for the local electricity units, as well as building rural electrification programs, the official added.
In the northern province of Vinh Phuc only, the projet will benefit as many as 86 communes in 8 districts with 1,531-km low-voltage transmission lines and newly-built 612-km power lines and upgraded 919-km electricity line.
