Vietnam to Kick off Ten Major Power Projects This Year
Vietnam this year will kick off ten big power projects, including five hydropower plants and five thermo-power plants with the combined capacity of 3,229MW in an effort to cope with an estimated electricity shortage of 1.1 billion kWh in the country this year.
The five hydropower projects comprise of the 520 MW Huoi Quang plant, the 220 MW Ban Chat plant, the 164MW Song Tranh plant 2, the expanded Thac Mo plant with a capacity of 75 MW and the 90 MW Khe Bo plant.
The five thermal electricity projects are the 300 MW O Mon thermo-power plant 1, the 600 MW Quang Ninh thermo-power plant 1, the 660 MW O Mon thermal power plant 3, the expanded Uong Bi thermal power plant 2 with capacity of 300 MW and the 300MW expanded Ninh Binh thermo-power plant.
In addition, the sector will also kick off four 500-kV transmission lines, 64 220-kV transmission lines and many other 110-kV lines this year.
Vietnam is forecast to face a shortage of 1.1 billion kWh in 2006 and 6.6 billion kWh in 2007 and 8.6 billion kWh in 2008, some 10.3 billion kWh in 2009 and 7.2 billion in 2010.
