Vietnam’s machinery installation corporation Lilama yesterday signed a US$70.4-million contract with Technip-led consortium to provide tanks and pipes among other products for the country’s first Dung Quat Oil Refinery complex.

The contract is to complete packages No. 2 and No. 3 of the refinery's construction and will be completed by March 2008.

Under the contract, Lilama will provide tanks, pressure tanks, interconnecting pipelines, paint, controllers and insulation for the two packages.

"Due to complications of the packages, Lilama needs 14 months to go through the contract, this is Lilama’s longest business negotiation process," said Lilama General Director Pham Hung.

The two packages need 3,000 engineers and experienced and skilled workers. The 8-km pipe system and 5,400 cubic meter tanks will weigh 50,000 tons in total.

Dung Quat Oil Refinery, with a total value of some US$2.5 billion, can process 6.5 million tons of crude oil a year. The refinery is scheduled for operation by 2009.

The State-run Vietnam Oil and Gas Corp. (PetroVietnam) is the investor of the project while Technip-led consortium comprising France’s Technip, Malaysia’s Technip Geoproduction, Japan’s JGC and Spain’s Tecnicas Reunidas is the contractor.
