The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has permitted the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) to supply banking services during all the seminars of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2006.

Under such a decision, BIDV will set up transaction desks or counters at seminar sites and residing localities of representative delegations in a bid to conveniently serve and meet the spending, shopping, and travel demands of delegates.

As planned, the bank will provide banking services such as trading and exchanging foreign currency; trading travelers’ checks; advancing cash for international cards as well as many others.

In another move, the Prime Minister ordered the government’s budgetary agency to advance VND23.9 billion (US$1.51 million) to purchase cars for the APEC 2006 meetings.

Accordingly, cash withdrawn from the State Budget Estimation Fund for 2006 will be used to buy 32 Ford Mondeo 2.5L sedans for international events related to the APEC 2006 Meeting.

APEC 2006 attracts the attention of 21 member economies. It is scheduled that APEC 2006 will hold more than 100 meetings throughout the whole year in many big cities.
