Vietnam will build an additional three 500 kilovolt power transmission lines to connect the Son La 2,400MW Hydro-power Plant, the largest of its kind in the country, to its national electricity grid, according to the Ministry of Industry (MoI).

The three new projects are aimed to link the Son La power plant to the northwestern Hoa Binh province, the northern Ninh Binh province’s Nho Quan district and the Soc Soc suburban district of Hanoi.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is authorized to implement the projects, which will be approved by MoI, as well as select the locations to construct the new Soc Son 500-kV and the An Duong 220-kV transformer stations in the outskirt regions of Hanoi, according to the Government Office’s instruction.

Currently, the country is operating transnational 500-kV lines.

The Son La six-turbine power plant designed with consultations between Vietnamese leading experts and Russian hydrodynamic designers, which will be built at total investment of VND36.933 trillion (US$2.33 billion) and is scheduled for completion in 2013, is designed to generate 10.22 billion kWh of electricity each year for the national power grid. The first turbine will be put into operation in 2010.
