Vietnam to Build US$158.2Mln Airport on PhuQuocIsland This Year
A project to build an international airport in Vietnam’s largest and tourism-economic potential rich island of Phu Quco in southernmost Kien Giang province is scheduled to be kicked off this year with an estimated investment of VND2.5 trillion (US$158.2 million).
The airport is set to cover an area of 800 hectares of land. When completed, it is expected to serve 2.5 million passengers a year and is able to house planes like Airbus A320, A321 and Boeing 767.
However, the completion date of the project is unavailable.
Phu Quoc is famous for its green forests and white sandy beaches and is located 115 km off shore from Kien Giang province’s capital of Rach Gia. It is considered the cleanest area in Southeast Asia.
PhuQuocIsland is now emerging as the specially favored destination for real estate and tourism investors.
Earlier, the government of Vietnam officially offered preferential treatment for investors in Phu Quoc, accordingly, both foreign and domestic investors will only be burdened with a corporate income tax of 10 per cent for the entire duration of their project and their employees regardless of their income and citizenship will only have to pay 50 per cent of the applicable income tax.
In November last year, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai approved a plan to develop the island into an international luxury eco-tourism center by 2020, aiming to attract 2-3 million local and international tourists to the island each year.
