Air France: Paris-Saigon Route - 60th year Anniversary
On June 18, 1946, Air France inaugurated passenger flights from Vietnam to France. It was then a weekly flight by four-engines DC-4 at a speed of 350km/hour and capacity of 42 passengers. The plane took off at Orly airport (Paris) on Friday, stopped over in Tunis, Cairo and Calcutta and arrived in Saigon after three days.
Today, Air France has launched Life Blue programme with seven flights a week for both ends Saigon and Paris and was elected the best European airlines for three years in a row (2003-2006) by TTG Asia magazine, the best passengers service by the Economic Times, and Vietnam best-known brand by AC Neilsen and VCCI.
Mr Louis Vergeon, Air France Director, Vietnam, said that he is proud of the traditional relations with South East Asia, especially Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and the long-standing partnership between Air France and Vietnam. Such a relationship will promote economic and cultural exchanges between Vietnam, France and Europe as a whole.
