Over the past few years, Bien Hoa Industrial Zone Development Company (Sonadezi) has been very successful in developing, managing and trading industrial park infrastructure. Vietnam Business Forum interviewed Mr. Nguyen Van Vy, general director of Sonadezi, about the successes and development orientations of his company.

Can you briefly mention some notable achievements of your company between 2001 and 2005?
Founded in December 1995, Sonadezi is the first State-owned enterprise in Vietnam engaged in developing, managing and trading industrial park infrastructure. The most outstanding success in Sonadezi’s industrial zone infrastructure investment is Bien Hoa Industrial Park II, one of few industrial zones in Vietnam to be named the greenest and cleanest in Vietnam. After more than 15 years, Sonadezi invested in eight out of 23 industrial zones in Dong Nai Province, four residential zones, two resettlement areas and many other construction works. At the moment, Sonadezi has more than 350 customers operating in industrial parks and 680 customers engaged in housing projects all over the world, including world-leading firms like Fujitsu, Hitsamitsu, Sanyo, Mabuchi Motor, Shell, Exxon Mobil, Nestlé, Cargill, OPV, Tainan and Taicera. Especially from 2005, Sonadezi shifted from the operation form of a State-run enterprise into a holding company which comprises of 16 subsidiaries and six joint venture companies engaged in industrial property, real estates, projects, sand exploitation, paint production, shipping, seaport among others.

From now until 2010, Dong Nai will push up the industrialisation and modernisation in all sectors throughout the province. So, how has Sonadezi prepared to join hands with other enterprises to realise the targets of the province?
Originally, Sonadezi is an industrial park infrastructure business and currently has extended its scopes to water supply, transportation, construction and training among others. Hence, the development goal of the company also goes in line with the common target of the industrialisation and modernisation of Dong Nai Province until 2010. We believe Sonadezi will accomplish this target in the five years to come.

Sonadezi has a lot of rivals in such scopes as water supply, transportation, shipping, construction, construction consultancy and paint production. As a newly appointed general director of Sonadezi, can you reveal the goals and strategies to develop your company in the coming years, especially the competitiveness against multinational firms as Vietnam becomes a full member of the WTO?
Vietnam’s accession to the WTO will generate cooperation and investment opportunities in many fields. To grasp this chance, right from now, Sonadezi is focused on bringing into full play its strong points and experience in its major business scopes of industrial park and residential area development and pledges to introduce products of higher quality. In the meantime, Sonadezi intensively develops its existing fields in order to provide related services and support its major business scopes of industrial park and residential zone development. Besides, Sonadezi continues accomplishing its holding company form to maximise its total capital and human resources.
