VIETTEL to Install Software to Manage Public Internet Owners
The Vietnam Military Telecom Corp. (Viettel) is preparing to offer software to internet cafe owners to manage their open connections, following the issuance of the Official Dispatch No. 2520/BBCVT-VT dated December 14, 2005 by the Ministry of Posts and Telecoms (MPT).
According to the Telecommunication Department under the MPT, Viettel’s software meets all requirements and can be installed on low configuration computers. In particular, Viettel’s software enables internet café owners to view personal information of internet users (which has a validity of some one year) and information of website addresses their clients visit. To have access to such information, owners must use accounts provided by Viettel Telephone because these pieces of information are very sensitive. Further, the software also enables owners to view and update bad-content websites listed on the Blacklist.
The internet service provider (ISP), Viettel, will begin installing this software for its public internet subscribers nationwide from July 24, 2006 and will finish before August 1, 2006 - the deadline set by the MPT.
