After three months used cars are allowed to enter Vietnam, a total of 96 secondhand automobiles have arrived in Vietnamese international seaports. The online newspaper VnExpress picked up the most salient statistics about the imported vehicles.
The most favorite brand: BMW
Twenty three out of 96 imported used cars, or 24 per cent, are BMW sedans, principally series 5 and series 7.
The largest import model: Kia Morning
Thirteen Kia Morning sedans were imported through Haiphong Port by a Hanoi-based company. A Kia Morning has an import price of US$1,700, subjected by customs officials. The runner-up is the Toyota Sienna with 10 units via Saigon Port by Tradoco Co.
The most expensive brand: BMW 730d
Two secondhand BMW 730d manufactured in 2005 have an individual import price of $44,000, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Customs Department. The importer declared the import prices for these two vehicles were $38,500 and $37,500 but were rejected by customs authorities.
The largest supplier: the United States
Thirty two vehicles, or 33 per cent of the total, are imported from the US which is followed by Germany with 29 units. The US mainly supplies multipurpose vehicles like Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna while Germany mainly exports luxury BMW and Mercedes cars to Vietnam.
The largest importer: Tradoco
The Ho Chi Minh City-based Tradaco Co. is the largest importer with 24 units, including five Mercedes R350 and R500, three Mercedes ML350, an Acura RL, an Infiniti M35, three BMW 750Li, a BMW X5, two BMW 525i, a BMW 530i, seven Lexus and three Toyota Sienna.
The largest receiving port: Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City ports receive 52 cars to date, followed by Haiphong Port with 36 units and Danang Port with eight units. Quang Ninh Port has no car arrivals to date.
