APEC CEO Summit 2006, hosted byVietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) from November 17 to November 19, 2006, is expected to receive some 800 business leaders from the all over the Asia Pacific region and the world, stated Dr. Vu Tien Loc, VCCI President, at the official press conference on August 9 to announce the event and another business meeting entitled “Doing Business with Vietnam Forum 2006”.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thao, Executive Director of APEC CEO Summit 2006 and VCCI Deputy Secretary General, APEC CEO Summit 2006 under the core theme “Towards One Community: Creating New Opportunities for Shared Development” will take place at the National Convention Center, Hanoi. The Summit agenda with 15 working sessions is designed to deliberate the key interests of APEC’s public and private sector such as economic cooperation, business investment environment and innovation to name a few areas.
APEC CEO SUMMIT 2006 and Doing Business with Vietnam Forum 2006, also taking place at the National Convention Center, Hanoi on November 16, 2006, are considered the most important business events in Vietnam’s APEC Year 2006, to which VCCI has been appointed by the Government to organize.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is the premier economic forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. Its 21 member economies account for approximately 40 per cent of the world’s population, approximately 56 per cent of world GDP and about 48 per cent of world trade. It also proudly represents the most economically dynamic region in the world having generated nearly 70 per cent of global economic growth in its first 10 years. 75 per cent FDI and 50 per cent ODA of Vietnam is from APEC, APEC also accounts for 80 per cent of international trade.
Summit is an annual event held in conjunction with the APEC Leaders’ Meeting. Since its inception, the Summit has grown in stature to become one of the most prestigious events of the region, providing opportunities for business leaders to hear presentations from and to engage in discussions with APEC leaders, policy makers, academia, and other CEOs on the most critical economic and business issues facing the region. No other event brings together so many leaders’ of economies and business to share a platform and discuss the key challenges and opportunities facing the region.
The "Doing Business with Vietnam Forum 2006", takes place one day before the APEC CEO Summit, and expects an audience of around 600 delegates who are Vietnamese officials at ministerial levels, CEOs and leaders from international and multinational organizations, and Vietnamese companies.
Under the theme of " as the newest member of the WTO", the event aims to introduce 's roadmap for integration into the world economy; to clarify the government’s strategies for the development of key sectors; to share experiences and recommendations from current foreign investors in ; and to identify opportunities for international and Vietnamese businesses to work together.
The one-day event will be divided into three sessions. Two interactive morning sessions will focus on the creation of the right business environment in and the strategies for development of key sectors. Government ministerial leaders and international business will share their views during panel discussions and Q&As. The afternoon session will concentrate on sector-specific business opportunities, experiences and recommendations of foreign investors. Financial service development and infrastructure improvement will be the main topics of discussion in the afternoon which will be run in parallel with Business Networking activities.
The Forum is strongly supported by the Vietnamese Government, related Ministries, as well as Vietnamese and foreign business communities. The Ministry of Planning and Investment, Hanoi People's Committee, and the VinaCapital Group, one of the leading asset management, corporate finance, and real estate firm, are co-organizers of the Forum this year.
