Dung Quat Shipyard to Build 115,000-ton Oil Tanker
Dung Quat Shipbuilding Co. has signed an in principle agreement to build a 115,000-ton oil tanker for Vinashin Ocean Shipping Co. (Vinashinlines), state media said.
The tanker, measuring 249.9m long, 44m wide and 21.6m high and capable of traveling at 15.2 nautical miles an hour, will be used to carry crude oil, refined oil and chemicals. The ship fits all requirements set by ABS of the United States and the VR of Vietnam. The tanker will be delivered to Vinashin in December 2008.
Dung Quat Shipyard, located in central Quang Ngai province, and Vinashin are both members of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin).
Vinashin is also building oil tankers weighing more than 100,000 tons each for Vietnam Oil and Gas Corp. (PetroVietnam). Vinashin reported revenues of nearly VND11,500 billion ($718.75 million) in 2006, up 44.1 per cent against 2005.
In 2007, Vinashin targets to raise revenues to VND18,500 billion ($1.16 billion), and industrial production value to VND22,000 billion ($1.38 billion).
According to a close source, Vinashin has signed ship export contracts valued $6 billion, sufficient for its full operation until 2012.
