Businesses in Barcelona want to invest in Ho Chi Minh City’s infrastructure sector, said deputy leader of Spain’s second largest city on January 15 during a visit to Vietnam as the head of a business delegation.

They were especially interested in transport, water supply, and drainage, Barcelona’s Deputy Mayor Jordi Portabella told his HCMC counterpart, Nguyen Trung Tin.

Many entrepreneurs accompanied the delegation to the country to study the market and look for partners, according to deputy chairman of Barcelona’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Josep Manuel Basanez Villaluenga.

The year 2006 was important for Vietnam-Spain diplomatic relationship, as it marked the first visit of King Juan Carlos to Vietnam in February with an entourage of 40 businessmen. During the trip, Vietnam and Spain signed four agreements pledging to work closely in various sectors, including investment promotion and protection.

In the year, more than ten business delegations from Spain came to Vietnam to look for cooperation opportunities.
