US$222.5Mln to be Poured into Seafood Processing, Trading by 2010
Vietnam’s fisheries sector will invest around VND3,560 billion ($222.5 million) into seafood processing and trading from now to 2010, according to the Ministry of Fisheries.
The sum, of which some VND253 billion comes from the State’s budget, will be dedicated to building the trademark, strengthening inspection on seafood safety and hygiene, and preventing aquatic diseases.
Accordingly, the sector will boost trade promotion activities, market research, and diversify seafood export items and outlets while supporting local fishermen to upgrade fishing facilities and preserve aquatic products.
The sector will also set up a network of aquatic product markets where almost all products meet standards on food safety.
At a conference in Hanoi on Jan. 16 to discuss orientations for fisheries development, the ministry of Fisheries said it will give priority to aquaculture development.
While Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung urged the sector to focus on developing quality fish fries for raising, which will help stop small-scale breeding based solely on fishermen's personal experience. (Vienam & World Economy)
