On the occasion of the European Union 50th Anniversary, the European Commission mission in Vietnam and the Institute of International Relations jointly hosted the seminar on “50th Anniversary of European Union: Building on the Past, Looking Towards the Future.” This is part of the one-week celebration of the anniversary of the EU (March 25, 1957 - March 25, 2007).

At the seminar, Mr Pierre Defraigne, Director of the European Sub-institute of the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), and former deputy director general of the European Commission, presented the meanings of the Rome Treaty, the role of EU in the world and the future of the EU. Vietnamese attendants also presented themes of building the ASEAN community, and EU experience for ASEAN.

Attendants included scholars, lecturers and students at the European studies branch of the Institute of International Relations, EU diplomats, reporters and other concerned people. This is also an opportunity to explore the viewpoints of senior EU and Vietnamese diplomats about the role of the EU in the world and EU-Vietnam relations.
