During his visit to Ho Chi Minh City in late March 2007, Medgyessy Peter, former Prime Minister and Mobile Ambassador of the Hungarian Prime Minister, proposed the city’s officials to provide information about the city’s infrastructure development plans for Hungary. Therefore, Hungarian giant groups may co-operate with Vietnamese enterprises in infrastructure development, waste water treatment, water drainage, information technology and forestry. At the working session, Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, said local authorities would create favourable conditions for Hungarian investors.

Also on the occasion, Hungary announced it would provide Vietnam a credit support of US$35 million. Medgyessy asked Ho Chi Minh City to select a prestigious person to act as honourary consul for Hungary in Ho Chi Minh City to boost co-operation between the city and Hungary.
