Private Companies: Investment in Post, Why Not?
For a long period of time, no private company was confident enough to invest in post services, for fear of highly possible losses. In Vietnam, post service is seen as a community service for the community, not for profit.
Not until the country applied the “open door” policy, did private investment into the post service have new potential. The geographic distance the two largest commercial hubs of the country Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is great, but the communication and parcelling demand is huge. The post service plays an even more important role in international trade, as it links Vietnam with the rest of the world. In addition, higher Vietnamese living standards will lead to higher demand for delivery of letters, parcels and gifts. Hence, Vietnamese customers get familiar with post service names like Viettel, Tin Thanh and Hop Nhat (HNC), in addition to world-renowned DHL, AT Express and Fedex.
Hop Nhat Company (HNC) has emerged as a capable private post service company. It obtained the annual “Vietnam Strong Trademark 2007” Award granted by the Vietnam Economic Times and Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency in early April. HNC has a wide network of post services. To date, no other private company has agents in all 64 provinces and cities of Vietnam like Hop Nhat Company. In addition, HNC takes the initiative in joining hands with other service providers to optimise delivery service throughout the country. Last but not least, HNC also has an office in Singapore and is planning for several other international locations.
From its solid network, HNC can provide diversified and value added service and product packages. Apart from traditional products like express delivery and transportation, HNC also ensures on-time delivery services. Especially, HNC insures 100 per cent of parcel value.
At present, HNC has some 700 employees and more than 100 well-trained and professional agents. In 2006, HNC had total revenue of VND70 billion (US$4.38 million) - an impressive figure for a private post service company.
