United Airlines October 8 announced it will officially begin new flight between Los Angeles and HCM city from October 29, 2007.

The daily flight with Boeing 747-400 will transit in Hong Kong.

The new service by United Airlines, which is the only American carrier operating in Vietnam since the two countries signed a landmark aviation agreement in 2003, is expected to pay the way for 500,000 overseas Vietnamese living in the Los Angeles-Orange County area to come back home.

“Los Angeles is home to the largest Vietnamese community in the U.S. and the new service is expected to appeal the growing Vietnamese market,” said Joe Mannix, United Airlines’ country manager in Vietnam, adding that the flight will offer more services for Vietnamese passengers who can not speak English.

Trade between the U.S. and Vietnam is increasing annually thanks to a bilateral trade agreement and Vietnam’s WTO membership. The demands of business travelers are also rising alongside the trade boom.

The new flight will help boost Vietnam’s tourism campaign in the U.S.

United Airlines is running two flights from HCMC to San Francisco and Chicago via Hong Kong, in addition to nearly 3,600 flights a day to over 210 U.S domestic and international destinations.

Vietnam Airlines early this month said that it will begin direct flight from HCMC to the U.S. in late 2008. The Vietnam’s flag carrier has recently inked deals totaling US$4.7 billion with Boeing Co. and Airbus to buy 12 B787-8s and 30 Airbus aircrafts. (Young People)
