Vietnam Plans Retail Distribution Seminar in March
The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade said that a seminar on planning domestic retail distribution network will be open in March.
The workshop with the participation of many local retailers as well as experts and market managers will focus on measures to develop the country's retail system and to improve competitiveness of local businesses against foreign rivals, the ministry said.
Vietnam's retail playground will completely open its door to global retail giants since January 2009. The retail sector, thus, is forecast to be among potential investment fields of many businesses, particularly commercial banks, in the upcoming time.
The country's retail growth has steadily increased to 18 per cent-22 per cent in the period of 2003-2007. In 2007, total retail goods and services revenues reached VND726.11 trillion (US$45.4 billion), an on year increase of 23.3 per cent.
The country has so far had approximately 140 supermarkets, 20 commercial centers and a total of one million square meters spent on developing the retail sector. (Investment Review)
