Lilama Opens US$15.2 Mln Shipyard in Northern Vietnam
The Vietnam Machine Installation Corporation (Lilama) March 18 inaugurated a shipyard worth VND260 billion (US$15.2 million) in northern coastal Haiphong city.
The shipyard, part of a master plan shipbuilding industry development till 2010 approved by the Prime Minister, directly managed by Lilama’s Haiphong Equipment Manufacturing and Shipbuilding Company (Lisemco).
Lisemco aims to build five new vessels each year and repair nine others with a loading capacity of DWT 6,500 DWT each, said General Director Tran Viet Khanh.
He added that the firm is expected to become a national top industrial equipment manufacturing center which is capable of building 10,000 DWT-capacity vessels.
At the launching ceremony, Lilama also transferred a 3,300 DWT container ship and laid keel of another under a contract worth of US$5.6 million with Germany.
Lilama has targeted to make total business and production value of VND16.275 trillion (roughly US$1 billion) this year, from VND16 trillion in 2008.
Last year, Lilama invested in 55 projects with a total investment capital of VND745 billion.
The corporation also aims to become a strong heavy industry group. (VNA, Labor)
