With the aim to take care of health and examine and treat diseases for local people living in Cu Lao Minh region, Ben Tre province planned to build Cu Lao Minh Polyclinic in 1997. In 2000, the Polyclinic started operating. The establishment of the hospital together with endless efforts of its medical staff have created a revolution in taking care of health for local people.
Kicked off in 2007 at a cost of VND 27.714 billion sourced from the provincial budget, the Polyclinic meeting Level III, a grading of hospitals in Vietnam, was initially designed with 200 sick-beds. When it started operating, apart from facing the shortage of equipment, the personnel of the clinic were below average. The initial medical staff mainly came from the Mo Cay District’s health centre; however, they tried their utmost to map out a suitable operation programme, improving treatment quality for the sick.
Cu Lao Minh region is an extensive area with the separated and obstructed traffic and local people meeting many difficulties in earning their living. Thus, the Cu Lao Minh Polyclinic has been playing an important role in looking after health and examining and treating diseases for local people. Awaking to its own importance, the Polyclinic has invested much in infrastructure in the past years despite financial difficulties. The Polyclinic has upgraded some rooms, facilities and other works including emergency room, nutrition, anti-bacterial contamination and image diagnosis facility.
In a bid to connect closely between the improvements of treatment quality with the equipment investment, the hospital bought some equipment such as cardiograph, 500mA X-ray machine and biochemical testers. In 2008, the Polyclinic continued organising biddings for purchasing some high valuable medical equipment such as coloured echograph, scialytic lamp, operating table, digital x-ray machine, stomach photoscanner and orthodontic photoscanner.
The Department of Health assigned the hospital to upgrade to 250 sick-beds in 2005 and 350 sick-bed within 2009. In order to meet the demand for human resources, the hospital sent its personnel for training courses, partly satisfying the demand. The hospital now has 309 officials. The number of doctors is 52 including one II level therapist and 27 I level therapists. In the coming time, the hospital needs graduates, especially, topologists, graduates for testing, biochemical graduates, and image diagnosticians.
According to Doctor Trinh Van Hoang, Director of the Polyclinic, the above achievements have resulted from the effort, intelligence and confidence of the hospital’s staff. The Party and the board of managers and faculties play important roles in Cu Lao Minh Polyclinic. The hospital currently has over 100 party members with both steady professional and political skills, acting as a cadre to lead the hospital to implement social and political mission of the branch well. The hospital has recognised as the comprehensive powerful party committee during the past five years.
Trade Union and Ho Chi Minh Communist League are two important political organisations in the cadre of the hospital. The two institutions over the past years have encouraged labourers and the youth, making many accomplishments for the hospital, looking after the physical and spirit life for labourers, as well as seriously carrying out policies, resolutions and regulations of the Party and the health sector.
