"Sacrificing for the Success"

A great number of enterprises met difficulties in 2008. However, Binh Duong Forestry Product and General Import-Export Corporation (Genimex) had gained achievements. Nguyen Le Hang, GENIMEX’s Chairwoman cum General Director was presented the Golden Rose Award. Vietnam Business Forum reporter had an interview with Nguyen Le Hang about her success.
 
2008 was considered as a year with full of difficulties. Many enterprises contended for their existence. In that common context, GENIMEX still asserted its position in the market through its own ways. Do you share something about your success?
GENIMEX operates in construction, consultancy, design and wood processing sectors. Its construction and consultancy accounts for 60 percent, wood producing and processing 30 percent, and other sectors 10 percent. Fields in which the company operating cause few people believes that the captain of the company is a businesswoman. GENIMEX’s forerunner was Forestry Product Import-Export Company established in 1997. In 2005, the company changed its name to GENIMEX. With 20 architects and over 50 skillful engineers together with a great deal of high-quality devices, GENIMEX not only overcame difficulties and challenges of 2008 but also gained many achievements. In 2008, the company earned VND180 billion, surpassing VND15 billion compared to the initial target set of VND165 billion, paid dividend of 20 percent. A number of enterprises suspended their construction projects due to the increase in material prices in 2008, GENIMEX, however, still conducted their projects in Binh Duong province. The company bravely boosted export forestry products to Japan, U.S., and New Zealand, asserting and raising its prestige. 
 
In the context that the market is still facing much fluctuations, the company has decided to accelerate its investment projects including industrial-service complex project and trade-service project in Uyen Hung Township, Binh Duong province while many enterprises are pondering over their investment projects.
 
As a person with full of experience, what do you comment on strong points as well as disadvantages of a businesswoman compared to a businessman?
An easily seen strong point of a businesswoman is reliability. They often consider carefully prior to taking action, creating belief from their staff, banks and clients. They are also flexible and thoroughly understand thought and feelings of juniors, therefore their human behaviours are more watertight and integral. Moreover, they work with tremendous and meticulous care, creating belief from their partners. With inherent soft and patient manners in a woman, businesswomen induce their partners to yield to them in negotiating. There have still many difficulties and challenges ahead, businesswomen nurture great ambitions and determination to stand steady in the violent business world. These causes make the rate of failure of businesswomen lower than those of businessmen.
 
However, businesswomen meet difficulties in their relationships. Erstwhile conceptions say that business and management activities are for men, and that housework is just for women. Businesswomen meet many difficulties in getting in touch and negotiating work with people who have that conception. Moreover, businessmen contact with clients more easily than businesswomen.
 
What are your commends on woman of today? Do you share your experience in leading with young females who have been nurturing business ambitions?
I think that however modern a woman is, she still maintain her family’s happiness. I always advise myself to fulfil my role as a mum and as a wife.
 
Whoever is leader, he must sacrifice for development of his firm and staff if he wants to come to the success. An important thing is that you must listen to ideas from staff and create favourable conditions for the staff. Moreover, enterprises which want to come to the success need to put their heart and prestige in the top.
